Remember that post about how I made zero progress towards anything positive during 2015? If you missed it, you can read it here. The other day I was reflecting on my goal for 2016, “Be present, be kind.” Apparently what I wanted to do is set myself for daily failure.
As many of you know, Denver’s economy is booming. It was actually just named the best place to live. Of course, there are natural consequences with such a booming economy and often times I’m on the front line picking up those pieces. Scrambling to house geriatric clients due to no fault of their own has maybe made me a little jaded.
On Saturday while waiting for my tour of the Rockies Stadium, I was was approached by a young man. “Excuse me, do you have any spare change? I just moved here from Texas today and ran out of gas.” My response? “You shouldn’t have moved here if you did not have the resources to sustain yourself. Thats really poor planning and therefore even if I had change, I wouldn’t give it to you.” Maybe next time I’ll just stick to the simple “no” and fall back on the “when all else fails, eat ice cream” part of the post.
